About me

My name is Steve Morris and I’ve been an artist since I was a child, which is to say for as long as I can remember all I ever really wanted to do was draw and paint pictures.

After school I went to art college and trained as a graphic designer, and it was there that I learned to look and see - and actually draw properly. To be honest, I’m still learning.

I’m a ‘generalist’ by nature, and my work reflects that. I don’t tend to stay in one lane for very long. I like to experiment, mix materials, borrow from different visual traditions and see what happens. Some pieces are illustrative, some are more gestural; some lean towards landscape, memory and narrative, while others are more abstract or instinctive.

For me, that range is really part of the point. I’m drawn to work that feels alive, a little unresolved and emotionally charged - where colour, texture and atmosphere are as important as the subject itself.
